The large scale illustration contest “IraCon Akiba 2013” sponsored by the IraCon Akiba Executive Committee began on Aug. 10 in Japan.

More than 500 works have already been submitted to the contest and fans are getting excited just by looking at them. Unfortunately, overseas submissions are not being accepted. However, there is no doubt that this contest will heat up even more due to the many high-quality creators from all over Japan participating!

Also, since it’s an illustration contest, there will of course be a winner! The contest was implemented for the purpose of uncovering future creators, and 2 million yen in total prize money will be given to the winners.

The submitted works are themed around a “future heroine” that participants are free to design based on a backstory they receive. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 30.

Judging for the contest will be open to a public vote, so many people other than just creators will be able to participate. After the contest ends, the top seven works will be chosen and the winners announced on Nov. 23. Participating as judges for the contest are Hiroshi Ōnogi, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Masatomo Kitō, Tatsuyuki Tanaka, Arina Tanemura, Kurehito MIsaki, and Ryukishi07.

Even for those who can’t participate, the great amount of high-quality works being submitted are definitely worth a look, so make sure to check the official site.
