“Cardcaptor Sakura” Celebrates 15th Anniversary! Junko Iwao Self Cover Album Releases

This year Cardcaptor Sakura, an explosively popular anime in Japan that began broadcasting on TV in 1998, will pass its 15 year anniversary.

The main character of Cardcaptor Sakura is Kinomoto Sakura. Sakura, together with her friends Daidouji Tomoyo and Li Syaoran, throws herself into battle to seal Clow Cards that have a hidden dark power. As a NHK anime, it had a record high production cost, and the total manga sold of the original work has surpassed 12 million.

Voice actress Junko Iwao performed the role of Daidouji Tomoyo in the anime. It’s possible to say she was the representative voice actress of the “voice star golden age” of the ‘90s. She has also starred in Neon Genesis Evangelion, Puella Magi Madoka Magica, Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai!, and more. The extent of her work is endless. She possesses the talent of being able to perform numerous popular works regardless of their age.

On July 7, Junko released a self cover album titled Yasashisa no Tane which includes songs from Cardcaptor Sakura. Each song features a Junko Iwao version and Daidouji Tomoyo version. The artwork was specially drawn by Clamp, the original manga artist group who created Cardcaptor Sakura.

This summer, why not relax with a classic anime? Enjoy Cardcaptor Sakura and the beautiful singing voice of Junko Iwao as herself and as Daidouji Tomoyo on her new album.
