Production is Advancing for Anime Adaptation of Battle Manga “Nobunagun”

It has been announced that production is proceeding on the anime adaptation of the manga Nobunagun, which is currently serialized in Monthly Comic Earth Star. This news was announced in the June issue of Monthly Comic Earth Star that went on sale on May 11. In this issue is a special feature commemorating the 10th anniversary since manga artist Masato Hisa’s debut. This special feature also touches on the anime adaptation of Nobunagun.

With only a bit more than two years of history, having launched in March of 2011, Monthly Comic Earth Star is still relatively new. However, since it’s first issue, it has published large articles related to voice stars and has expressed its commitment to animation. Since its launch a short time ago, works serialized in the magazine are being made into anime one after the other. Beginning in October 2012 with the broadcast of Teekyu, other works that have been broadcast so far include Mangirl! and Yama no Susume. Now, their attention is set on making an anime for Nobunagun.

Nobunagun is a battle manga that follows female high school student Ogura Shio, who inherited the E-gene from the famous Oda Nobunaga. Hisa is a manga artist whose past works include Area 51 and Grateful Dead. He has received enthusiastic support from a wide audience. In the current special feature in Monthly Comic Earth Star, it was also announced that production on the anime for Nobunagun is proceeding. No additional information regarding the anime has been released at this time, but more information should come to light very soon.

In the interview portion of the special feature on Hisa, he discusses his enthusiasm for the project. He even throws out jokes like, “It may be regrettable, but I thought that if all the characters who possess the E-gene were girls, it might be made into a card game.” The interview seems to be completely full of interesting content.

Anime adaptations for other serialized work from Monthly Comic Earth Star, such as Sekai de Ichiban Tsuyoku Naritai! and Pupa, are progressing as well. Having the catch phrase “a media mix comic magazine that begins from manga,” it seems we can expect Monthly Comic Earth Star to challenge itself in expanding even more. The June issue of Monthly Comic Earth Star is on sale now in Japan for 500 yen (tax included).
