Shoujo Manga Magazine Ribon Begins Publication of Hatsune Miku Column

In the June 2013 issue of the shoujo manga magazine Ribon, a column to introduce readers to the Vocaloid Hatsune Miku called “Hatsune Miku × Ribon Broadcasting Station.com” began serializing.

Ribon is a long-running, loved monthly shoujo manga magazine from Shueisha that began in 1955. Now, a column intended for Ribon’s elementary and middle school student readers in which Hatsune Miku will be introduced along with illustrations from Azumi Hinata is being published.

“Hatsune Miku × Ribon Broadcast Station.com” is organized into two pages that include an interview with Crypton Future Media’s I (name unknown), and introductions to recommended music for Ribon readers such as “The World is Mine” (the legendary hall of fame song) by Ryo from Supercell, which is accompanied by illustrations by Redjuice. In addition, there is a section called “Let’s Draw Vocaloids” that features illustrations drawn by readers.

Also, on the Ribon channel opened on Nico Nico Channel, songs are introduced as part of the same column used as the official tour edition.

Nico Nico Douga had a role in spreading Vocaloids and was the backdrop that supported Vocaloid culture for the last 10 years. As the first Vocaloid character, it can be said that Hatsune Miku’s unstoppable exposure on the internet that is increasing more and more is one instance of its influence.
