Since HK: Hentai Kamen released on April 6 throughout Japan, responses have been favorable, and the film has made over 150 million yen in box-office revenue. On May 7, the online cinema, Kinezo Cinema, also began screening the film. The popularity of this work is now seen to be expanding even further. The vigor surrounding the film isn’t just staying confined to Japan, but quickly moving overseas. Since the May 3 release of the film in Taiwan, the response has been exceptional.
The Taiwan release was larger than Japan’s: The film released on a total of 40 screens in 38 cinemas. Considering Taiwan’s annual film market is about 1/10 the size of Japan’s, at 20 billion yen, the scale of this opening is outstanding, showing the results of the high expectations held for this hit Japanese film.
The response for the film in Taiwan was favorable, with the film making 4.68 million yuan in box office revenue in only three days. On the weekend box office ranking, it ranked third following Iron Man 3 and director Danny Boyle’s latest work, Trance.
Such response was a result of the increased efforts of promoting the film in Taiwan. Just prior to the film’s release, TV commercials were broadcast. Also, 150 buses of downtown Taiwan were covered with advertisements for the film. Hentai Kamen traveling throughout the streets of Taiwan certainly must be a fascinating scene.
