Miki Releases Collaborative “Thunderbirds” Glasses with Genius Scientist Brains as Motif

Various glasses collaborating with anime and characters are gathering popularity. Meanwhile, the glasses developer and seller Miki has engaged in a collaboration with an unusual character.

On May 1, Miki released a frame in collaboration with the English special effects sci-fi drama Thunderbirds into all Paris Miki and Megane no Miki shops in Japan. This new product uses the character named Brains, a scientist genius appearing in Thunderbirds, as its motif.

Brains is the genius scientist who designed all the mechanics used by International Rescue. His trademark is his rather thick-framed glasses. He plays the main character in Miki’s commercial.

The collaboration project between Miki and Thunderbirds, titled “Paris Miki Thunderbirds,” started in March. It went on until the end of Golden Week on May 6 as the “Fashion Capital Paris Branch Store 40th Anniversary Special Project.” In the commercial and on the web site, Brains appears as the “future advisor of Paris Miki” and promotes the new product. Miki is also implementing a present campaign as part of the collaboration, with the main prize being a seven-day trip to London.

Miki added a new frame called “Aero Light Ultem” to the lineup of the “Lightness of the Future MiLight” series that uses “mirai” (future) and “light” in its title.

The frame is made using a hyperelastic plastic resin called Ultem that is known for being used in spacecrafts. It is a special material that is both light and resilient and withstands deformation caused by heat or chemicals. This frame is lighter, harder to break, and easier to put on than before.

This newly released Thunderbirds collaborative frame is the newest member of the “Lightness of the Future MiLight” series. In addition to “Brains’ color,” it is also available in white, red, and three other colors. The cost of this frame is 12,000 yen (includes tax). From here on, Miki is planning to further develop its Mirai Labo brand.
