On June 13, a stage greeting and special preview event for the animated film Ghost in the Shell: Arise Border 1: Ghost Pain was held at Toho Cinemas in Roppongi Hills, Tokyo. This film is the first part in the new anime series of Ghost in the Shell. The series is arranged into four parts. The film depicts the establishment of Public Security’s “Section 9” and shows Kusanagi Motoko and Batou in their younger days. The film also shows new characters, including Tsumugi, a cyborg attached to the 501 Organization, and Kurtz, the head of the 501 Organization.
At the stage greeting were Kato Natsuki (a TV star who loves Ghost in the Shell), Nankai Candies’ “Shizu-chan,” and comedian Penalty no Wakki, who all appeared on stage wearing red leather jackets and blue wigs in the image of Kusanagi. Each one then talked about their thoughts toward the series. Among these was an appeal from Natsuki about participating in the next film: “A friend of mine is playing a robot, so I too want to try voice acting.”
Ghost in the Shell: Arise Border 1: Ghost Pain will be released in theaters in Japan on June 22. Advance sales of Blu-ray copies of the film will also begin in theaters on the same day. Also, sometime later this month, the sequel to this film will be announced. With new Ghost in the Shell works coming out, it seems like the momentum of the series won’t slow down for quite some time.
