The concluding chapter, Ghost in the Shell: Arise - Border:4 Ghost Stands Alone, will finally release countrywide in Japan for a limited 2-week showing on Sept. 6.
Creating the ending theme that will play during the finale is Yukihiro Takahashi & Metafive (comprised of Keigo Oyamada, Yoshinori Sunahara, Towa Tei, Tomohiko Gondo, and Leo Imai). Takahashi formed the super unit with members who are outstanding musicians also active overseas and has now announced the new song “Split Spirit” as the ending theme to the movie. This is the band’s first recording together, and they created an impressive tune that features throughout novel ideas from its members.
“Split Spirit” is also used in a trailer to Border:4 that was recently released, where it can be heard for the first time.
Regarding the lyrics, Takahashi talked about the mysterious girl Emma (CV: Ai Kayano) who appears in Border:4 and the “scarecrow man” Burina Junior (CV: Kensho Ono) who makes an appearance for the first time in the series, saying, “I wanted to momentarily express the conflict between these characters and the nihility and sorrow that is communicated throughout the entire work.” Through the beautiful music, Takahashi expresses the peculiar feelings of loneliness that can be consistently felt in Ghost in the Shell.
Anime fans, Ghost in the Shell fans, and even music fans should keep their eyes on Border:4. The concluding fourth chapter to this sci-fi cyber action story will continue to gain attention from here on.
