NHK General TV aired a documentary titled “Kyary Pamyu Pamyu Sensation! ~World Excited by World Tour Documentary~” of Kyary Pamyu Pamyu’s concert tour in the U.S. on May 6.
Debuting in the summer of 2011, artist Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has created a big boom in Japan. Currently, her popularity extends to the world through SNS and video websites.
The NHK documentary focused on the atmosphere of the concerts and showed behind the scenes footage of Kyary’s solo world tour that began earlier this spring, with a feature on the U.S. Tour held last month.
Kyary’s young overseas fans are caught on tape dancing and singing to her music. Her fans in their teens and twenties grew up with Japanese animation such as Pokémon and Sailor Moon.
The TV crew interviews Kyary during her strolls through the streets of LA and New York in a relaxed air to give viewers a glimpse into the personal side of the artist.
The documentary puts a spotlight on the charms of Kyary, who was born into a generation of pop music and social media listeners.
Kyary comments, “I went to LA and New York for my first world tour. I want my audience to enjoy the exciting visuals of the concerts and the private, behind the scenes footage of me shopping.”
