“Mobile Police Patlabor” Live-Action Project Begins

On March 21, the Mobile Police Patlabor live-action project was announced at Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF) 2013. The official teaser site was also unveiled that day.

The booth at TAF displayed a gigantic Patlabor and text reading “Patlabor Live-Action Project Launch Coming in 2014.” Both the text and Patlabor are also displayed on the teaser site. Specific release details and staff have yet to be made public.

The announcement was done at the Tohokushinsha booth and credit was given to both Tohokushinsha and Omnibus Japan. Therefore, it’s a certainty that both companies are working on the project. Tohokushinsha and Omnibus Japan offer high-quality content intended for mature audiences that features superior visual effects, and are famous for their popular special effects work, Garo. Fans can look forward to such skills being evident in this new project.

In 1989, an OVA of Mobile Police Patlabor directed by Mamoru Oshii was released. According to Masami Yuki, projects were simultaneously started for the series in various media, such as manga. As a representative work of the ‘80s and ‘90s, it achieved huge success in the world of TV anime, anime films, novels, and more.
