“Swim, Taiyaki-kun!” is acknowledged by Guinness World Records as the most well-known single record in Japan. Now, an app featuring this single is available for Android devices.
The “Swim, Taiyaki-kun!” single is such a huge hit that it has sold over 4.5 million copies. Even up until today, this record number has yet to be challenged. Its popularity spans several generations, and it remains the No. 1 selling song in Japan. Taiyaki-kun can be seen illustrated on the single’s jacket. Everyone in Japan can recognize Taiyaki-kun and recall this famous song.
On March 21, the game app Search, Taiyaki-kun! launched on Google Play for free. In the app, players must search for Taiyaki-kun’s girlfriend Anko-chan while playing against the clock for a high score. The app is not yet available for iOS devices.
Players can share their scores and records on Twitter and Line via the app. In celebration of the app’s release, a campaign is currently being held on Twitter. Twenty lucky tweeters will be chosen randomly and presented with a “Swim, Taiyaki-kun!” eco bag.
