It was announced that One Piece: Pirate Warriors 2, the PlayStation 3/PS Vita action game released on March 20, 2013, has reached more than 500,000 units shipped in Japan. In recent years, the previous game in the series, One Piece: Pirate Warriors, became a top-class hit, and this new game lived up to the expectations, instantly becoming a big hit with over 1.2 million units shipped throughout the world.

In regard to this brilliant achievement, the members of the production staff have all released comments. Koji Nakashima, a producer at Bandai Namco Games, stated his confidence in the new game, saying, “The new game is now ready, we left what worked from the previous game and improved all the elements.”

In his comment, Hisashi Koinuma, a producer at Tecmo Koei Games, revealed the following: “While we placed great importance on the unparallelled and overwhelming exhilaration of the Warriors series, we changed the stage to a new world and tried to reproduce the original work’s charm, where the characters, starting with the pirates, are all powered up.”
