Do you know what a “Real Escape Game” is? It’s a puzzle game in which participants are locked in a closed space and must rely on hints gathered in the area to solve riddles and escape. In a recent news article, we showcased one such game that collaborated with the anime Detective Conan. However, the game this time is a bit different in that it takes up an entire bookstore.
The game is called “Escape from the Bookstore Labyrinth,” and it started on March 29 at Shosen Grande, a large bookstore in Jinbocho, Tokyo. Participants are locked inside the bookstore under the pretense that a murderer is taking refuge somewhere in it. They are only given one book which they have to use as a clue to solve the riddles. What makes this game different from other Real Escape Games is that there is no time limit. The book used in the game costs 1,050 yen (tax included).
The famous voice actor duo You-Tak II (Yuuki Ono and Takuya Eguchi) have also tried out this game. They started at around 9 p.m., when all the ordinary guests were gone.
Since they were given a special rule, that is, a one-hour time limit, they had no choice but to run through the bookstore frantically. At first, the duo was confident they could clear the game, but as the riddles deepened, they were having a hard time. Just when they were about to solve the last puzzle, time was up.
After finishing the game, they shared their impressions in an interview, saying, “It was very tricky,” and, “I should’ve taken it more seriously.” They seemed frustrated for not being able to solve the remaining puzzle, but there was also a sense of fulfillment on their faces. “Escape from the Bookstore Labyrinth” is open until May 5, waiting for you to take the challenge!
