JETRO Releases Newest Investigative Report on the American Market

In January 2013, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) compiled information regarding the American marketplace in their latest investigative report “American Contents Market Research 2011-2012 (January 2013).” JETRO investigates the markets of countries all over the world and compiles the information into reports.

The report this time focused on three categories: games, music, and movies. From the report, it seems that the types of games that are picking up an especially large amount of momentum are social games, network games, and mobile game apps. Even in Japan, these types of games have picked up many users recently, and this spread can be seen in America as well.

Furthermore, the movie section of the report talked about the impact of Evangelion: 2.0 You Can (Not) Advance. Such an example as Eva: 2.0, which was released 14 years after its TV anime counterpart and became a record breaking hit, is rarely seen worldwide. The report featured other deeply interesting information as well, including a list of Japanese films that have been released in America, the trend of paid event screenings, and information on remakes of Japanese works. The report is a great reference for those in the anime industry.

JETRO is planning to release another report soon that focuses on anime, manga, TV programs, and characters.
