Collaboration Between Composer Isao Tomita and Hatsune Miku Becomes a Huge Hit!

Even though the world-renowned composer and synthesizer artist Isao Tomita celebrated his 80th birthday last year, his work is still nothing less than cutting-edge. On Jan. 23, 2013, Nippon Columbia released the CD “Ihatov Symphony”, a collaboration between Tomita and the virtual singer Hatsune Miku.

On Jan. 28, At Tower Recordommune Shibuya (TRDS), Tomita was a guest at the CD launch event “Toward the Faraway Ihatov!~Isao Tomita × Hatsune Miku ×Kenji Miyazawa”. The entire event was also aired live on the internet.

On Nov. 23, 2012, the world’s first performance of “Ihatov Symphony” was a huge success. Tomita spearheaded a chorus and huge orchestra as Hatsune Miku sang the vocals. It was a wondrous fusion of futuristic Vocaloid and classical symphony. The performance was broadcast worldwide via TRDS, and gained huge attention on the internet with over 13,500 viewers.

The live performance became available on CD only two months after the event, and in commemoration of its release TRDS held a one night only special event.

Be sure to check out a video of the performance on the official site for “Ihatov Symphony”!
