Moyoko Anno is a famous manga artist known for her works Happy Mania and Hataraki Man. She is also known for another work called Buffalo 5-nin Musume, which has been called her phantom work. In January 2013, the work was made into separate manga volumes. To commemorate this, a project to produce a gorgeous, full-color book of Buffalo 5-nin Musume was carried out. In charge of the project was the agency Cork. Using the cloud funding service Campfire, funding for the project was collected until Feb. 21.
The project consisted of fans contributing funding through Campfire, and if enough funding was received, the commemorative full-color book would be made. Funding for the project started at 500 yen, with those who contributed more than 7,000 yen getting their name printed in the credits of the book. Those who contributed more than 10,000 yen received a signed reprint of one of Anno’s original drawings. On Jan. 31, the target funding of one million yen was cleared.
Fans may be surprised to know that Moyoko Anno is actually the wife of Hideaki Anno, the director of the Evangelion anime. We have a feeling that he may have been part of the reason for this project’s success.
