The “Social Kingdom” Project Breaks Guinness World Record!

Totaling 1,087 participants, the “Social Kingdom” Project has been officially recognized as the “Manga Written by the Most People” by Guinness World Records.

The project was started on the internet in June 2012 as a commemoration work for the broadcast of the TV anime Kingdom. Volume 26 of the manga for Kingdom was chosen as the basis for the project. Each participant chose one frame from the manga, redrew it, and uploaded it to the project’s site. The artwork was then recompiled into one complete volume titled “Social Kingdom”. The manga is now available to read on Weekly Young Jump’s official site.

Participants in the project included famous manga artists such as Hirohiko Araki, creator of JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, Takehiko Inoue, creator of Slam Dunk, and Eiichiro Oda, creator of One Piece, as well as others. A contest was also held for the work in which users chose their favorite frame from the completed “Social Kingdom” manga. Those who ranked in the top 100 were given a special edition of the manga.

In commemoration of the Guinness World Record, the world record certificate was on display at Jump Festa 2013 from Dec. 22-23, 2012.
