On Dec. 19, 2012, Toei Animation and All Nippon Entertainment Works (ANEW) announced the live-action film Gaiking is being spearheaded by an extremely famous producer from Valhalla Entertainment, Gail Anne Hurd. Hurd has worked on several other popular films including Terminator, Aliens, and Armageddon.
Gaiking is based on the 1976 Toei Animation anime Demon Dragon of the Heavens Gaiking. Thus, Gaiking represents one of the robot anime masterpieces of Toei Animation and will feature battles throughout the world between enormous robots and invaders that are sure to keep you on the edge of your seat. However, this is not the first work created after the original anime. In 2005, Toei Animation created the television anime Gaiking: Legend of Daiku-Maryu. With many new projects brainstormed, the idea for a hollywood hit topped the list and the CG pilot of the film was originally shown in the assembly hall at the Tokyo International Anime Fair 2010.
Now two years have passed and fans are still eagerly waiting for a release date amongst the recent announcements. Nevertheless, anticipation continues to builds! We will be sure to keep you up-to-date on Gaiking!
