“From Up on Poppy Hill” Nominated for Annie Award, Outstanding Writing in an Animated Feature

Hayao Miyazaki is still going strong!

The nominees for the 40th Annual Annie awards, put on by ASIFA-Hollywood, have now been chosen from the many submission received. The Annie Awards award the best animations singled out from works announced in the U.S. within the past year. With 30 different awards spanning television and feature film animations, the Annie Awards has been referred to as the Animation Academy Awards.

In 2012, GKIDS produced the English version of From Up on Poppy Hill and the film has now received the “Outstanding Achievement, Writing in an Animated Feature Production” nomination amongst five other contenders. The original screenplay was superbly written by both Hayao Miyazaki and Keiko Niwa, the English screenplay was written by Karey Kirkpatrick. Although Hayao Miyazaki is well-known for directing movies, in this work his tact for writing screenplays shines. The whole trio is receiving honor for the nomination. The other works nominated for this category include the much talked about ParaNorman, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, Frankenweenie, Brave, and Wreck-It Ralph.

The eight nominees for Best Animated Feature are Brave, Frankenweenie, Hotel Transylvania, ParaNorman, Rise of the Guardians, The Pirates! Band of Misfits, The Rabbi’s Cat, and Wreck-It Ralph.

With such a stellar group of nominees, all the films deserve the honor of an Annie Award!
