After all this time, it’s popularity still hasn’t waned!
The full length animated movie Kaiketsu Zorori: G-G-G-Great Adventure! was released in Japan nationwide on Dec. 22, 2012. The movie is part of the Kaiketsu Zorori series, which first began in 1987, and since then continues to receive overwhelming support from children even after 25 years. The movie takes place on a legendary mountain said to contain hidden treasure of pirates from long ago. A mysterious illness has swept through a nearby village and it’s up to Zorori and the gang to save the children.
On Dec. 9, 2012, a preview event for the movie was held at Space FS Shiodome. Appearing on stage were the original author of Kaikatsu Zorori, Yutaka Hara, the voice of Zorori, Kouichi Yamadera, the voice of Ishishi, Rikako Aikawa, the voice of Noshishi, Kumai Motoko, as well as Seiran Kobayashi and Kanon Tani from the popular mascot girl group, Star Flower.
Kaiketsu Zorori is a series of extremely popular children’s books, with more than 32 million copies printed. For the movie, Hara played an active role in many different aspects, including the main song’s lyrics, which he wrote himself. On writing the lyrics, Hara explained, “When writing song lyrics, I am always thinking of inspirational phrases. Whenever I listen to songs by Hitoshi Ueki or Yuzo Kayama, I feel upbeat. For the movie, I asked Kouhei Tanaka to compose a song that captured this same upbeat feeling.”
Hara also discussed how he lent his voice to the movie during post production: “I was continually nervous even when the scene only had one line.” Knowing that if the movie is a hit, he will be asked to make another one, Hana also revealed that he is currently writing a new work.
