Japan Media Arts Festival 2012 began on Dec. 8, 2012 at ArtisTree in Hong Kong. The event is all about Japanese pop culture and isn’t planned to end until the beginning of January, 2013. The event is packed with exhibits, movie screenings, talk events, symposiums, and workshops.
Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs has held these exhibitions annually since 1997. Excellent work from the fields of art, animation, entertainment, and manga are given dutiful recognition and awards. Exhibits, symposiums, and conferences are also large parts of the event.
The exhibition will have a total of 28 works from 24 artists. With the majority of works on display being anime related, its an important part of the event. Works will include Mamoru Hosoda’s “Wolf Children” and “Summer Wars”, Hayao Miyazaki’s “Spirited Away” and “A Letter to Momo”, Mamoru Oshii’s “Ghost in the Shell”, and Katsuhiro Otomo’s “Akira”. These works may even influence Hong Kong’s local art scene. Many more Japanese anime works will also be on display.
Each year, Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs holds a meeting to decide the theme and location for the event. Since 2007, the event has been held in Shanghai, Singapore, Vienna, Istanbul, and Dortmund. Maybe it will come to your country In 2013.
