Japanese Artist Aoi Eir Collaborates with Sapporo Itasha Taxis

You may know that Itasha are cars that are decked out by anime fans with their favorite anime characters, but did you know that there are also Itasha taxis? Itasha taxis (Itataku), which have become a famous item in Sapporo, have finally collaborated with an actual person. That person is female artist Aoi Eir.

Aoi Eir is a singer from Sapporo, Hokkaido who debuted at #8 on music charts with her song “Memoria”, which was used as the ending theme to Fate/Zero. Lately, Eir has been gathering a lot of attention. Her third single “Innocence”, which was used as the opening theme to Sword Art Online’s Fairy Dance arc, was released on Nov. 21, 2012 and debuted at #8 on the daily song chart.

The current collaboration started with Eir posting a picture of an Itataku on Twitter. The Itataku used for this collaboration features a picture of Eir’s face. When asked about the collaboration, Eir had this to say:

By chance I happened to see a Resident Evil 6 taxi. Being a fan of Resident Evil, I couldn’t just ignore it, and without thinking, I took a picture of it and posted it to Twitter. I never thought I would be put on a taxi. If I get the chance, I want to take a picture of it and post it on Twitter as well. I also want to ride in it. It seems that those who ride in the taxi can watch the music video for “Innocence”. If you get the chance, please ride in it!

The Eir taxi is planned to be in operation inside the city of Sapporo until the end of February 2013. If you happen to be sightseeing in Sapporo, keep an eye out for it!
