A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away a franchise was created that is so iconic that it continues to sit right at the top of fans’ best-loved space operas. Yes, we’re talking about the daddy of them all - Star Wars!
When the original Star Wars movie, Episode IV: A New Hope was released in 1977, it quickly became a blockbuster phenomenon, and the tale of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia Organa, Han Solo and Chewbacca continued in the sequels Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back in 1980 and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi in 1981.
Eighteen years later, George Lucas returned to the Star Wars universe with three prequel movies including Episode I: The Phantom Menace in 1999, Episode II: Attack of the Clones in 2002, and Episode III: Revenge of the Sith in 2005. These prequels tell the story of Anakin Skywalker and his eventual turn to the Dark Side.
Finally the franchise came back to the big screen in 2015 with the first in a series of sequel and spin-off movies Episode VII: The Force Awakens directed by JJ Abrams. Centered around former Stormtrooper Finn and scavenger girl Rey, The Force Awakens takes place around 30 years after the original trilogy.
The spin-off movie Rogue One, directed by Gareth Edwards, is the first stand alone anthology movie set in the Star Wars universe and stars Felicity Jones as Jyn Erso.
