Sega
Sega Games Co. Ltd., originally short for Service Games, is an international games publishing company from Japan.
After beginning in the classic arcade game era, Sega moved into the home console market with the Sega Master System and later the more successful Mega Drive/Genesis as well as the handheld system Game Gear in the ‘90s. They later launched the Sega Saturn in 1994, but the console was never as successful as their earlier models and was later succeeded by the Dreamcast in 1998, which failed to take off with gaming fans.
However, Sega remains most famous for its mascot character, Sonic the Hedgehog, which has gone on to launch its own series of games and a wider multimedia universe. In more recent years, Sega has found success with the more adult-orientated Yakuza series, as well as the Hatsune Miku: Project Diva series.
As well as managing a range of merchandise themed around Sonic the Hedgehog and supporting characters like Knuckles the Echidna and Miles “Tails” Prower, Sega have also collaborated with other well-known anime and manga franchises such as Bleach, Neon Genesis Evangelion, and Initial D, producing various goods and merchandise related to the series.
