Nintendo 3DS

First introduced in 2011, the Nintendo 3DS is an update to the dual screen system which is able to display stereoscopic 3D effects without the need for glasses.

As well as the ability to play Nintendo 3DS games, the handheld console also includes a number of secondary features such as backward compatibility with Nintendo DS and DSi games, StreetPass / Spotpass, Nintendo Augmented Reality which makes use of the included 3D camera, and the Virtual Console which allows you to play older Nintendo games too. The console even comes with a number of preinstalled applications such as the Nintendo eShop, the Miiverse, internet browser, Netflix, YouTube and Hulu streaming capabilities, Nintendo Video, Swapnote messaging service (also known as Letter Box), and the Mii Maker.

The 3DS is also available in a larger XL size which has a 90% larger screen, as well as a 2DS version which is flat, doesn’t fold in half and plays in 2D only. An updated version of the 3DS was released in Japan in 2014 under the name The New Nintendo 3DS and has a more powerful CPU and second analog C-Stick.
