When we collaborated with the world-famous Ghost in the Shell series, we didn’t compromise in any way, even for something as mundane as a T-shirt, and we had many discussions with the project team about why and what we wanted to create.

Through this T-shirt, we want to embody the pride, dedication, and overwhelming quality of Japan and satisfy people all over the world, making them comfortable, beautiful, and above all pleased with the miracle of this wonderful collaboration.

This is more than just a simple T-shirt, it is “tech skin” filled with the love of Japanese craftsmanship.

For this purpose we were uncompromising in quality and design.

In order to create this project, we have teamed up with EIJI, a brand that shares our passion for making the best quality T-shirts in the world.

Ultimate Pima
The ultimate material for the ultimate T-shirt. The brand EIJI uses “Ultimate Pima,” a rare cotton that only makes up 0.03% of organic cotton produced in the world and is carefully selected from all over the world.

With a fiber length of 38.7 mm, it is the longest organic cotton in the world. It is a type of extra-long cotton that is also strong, and the longer the length of the fiber, the smoother the texture.

Also, while regular T-shirts are made with 30-count fibers, this time we used 80-count fibers, which are so thin and long that it is unthinkable for a T-shirt, and we also knit it using 40 gauge, which is an extremely large amount of yarn.

It has a moderately sleek feel with a dry touch that is comfortably smooth, and it has a soft, supple texture that feels like a second skin when you put it on. We have achieved the ideal fabric that is thick and durable.

A quality product in jet black that represents the worldview of Ghost in the Shell and won’t fade no matter how many times you wash it. The spirit of Japan backed by tradition and history that satisfies these two conditions. A black dye specialist established over 100 years ago in Kyoto.

We entrusted the dyeing work to Kyoto Montsuki, which boasts a 60% share of the black dyeing industry and is engaged in black dye manufacturing and dyeing of all kinds of materials, from Kyo-Kuromontsuki-Zome to Western clothes.

The black is so deep that it can be called jet black, and everything is deeply dyed an elegant black down to the threads and fibers. Coupled with Ultimate Pima, it creates a sublime presence that you can feel.

In pursuit of a quality product, this time we were also very particular about the logo portion. Using a technique called “somenuki,” instead of printing that peels off or deteriorates, we coated it with a special agent that doesn’t dye this part black and applied an original process to keep the original Ultimate Pima color on the logo part only.

By doing so, the logo will retain its shape even after washing, and you won’t feel any extra texture or print on your skin. It is truly a T-shirt that can be worn and still retain its ultimate texture.

Stitching based on ergonomics for a modern ninja-like fit
Our attention to detail extends to the movement of the body while wearing the T-shirt. The raglan-style stitching on the shoulders has been added to each part of the T-shirt, taking into account the movement of the muscles. It is designed to resist wrinkles no matter the angle of movement and to fit the body flexibly like sports innerwear.

With full cooperation from EIJI, we have created the ultimate T-shirt by sizing all the parts to order instead of using ready-made molds. We hope you will enjoy this T-shirt which has been sublimated from being merely a piece of clothing to being a piece of “wearable art.”

KATSUMI SAKAKURA
Born in 1963 in Nagoya, Japan. He is an artist who expresses the unique “movement, rhythm, and spirituality” of traditional Japanese culture as a comprehensive art form.

He began learning karate from his father at the age of 5, and began studying karate seriously at a dojo from the age of 10. He later switched to boxing while in university.

In his early 20s, he became obsessed with hip hop culture and began imitating black people. When a famous black dancer urged him, saying, “Why are you imitating other people’s culture when there is so much cool culture in Japan?”, he began to pursue the coolness of Japan.

After much trial and error, he perfected an original dance style based on the way the body is used and the way sounds are captured in traditional Japanese culture. He also invented “Street Nunchaku,” a dance performance using nunchaku (an Okinawan kobudo self-defense tool), which he learned at the same time as karate.

In 2004, he invented “Project Live,” a performance style that synchronizes live performances with projected images, and presented it at Japan Expo 2004 in L.A.

Since then, his style has been highly acclaimed around the world, and he has been invited to perform in 40 countries as well as has appeared on TV programs in 19 countries. He has also given lectures both in Japan and abroad on the subject of “The coolness of Japan that I want to tell the world about.”

In 2019, he gave a solo performance for the opening ceremony of the Rugby World Cup 2019 held in Japan.

In 2015, he gave the opening performance at the 128th General Assembly of the International Olympic Committee in Kuala Lumpur.

He is also a designer who designs and produces most of the costumes for his performances as well as his personal clothes, from glasses to coats.
