Nanabun no Nijuni

22/7 focuses on Miu Takigawa, a young otaku girl who gets invited to join the G.I. Production. The story follows Miu as she overcomes many hurdles to join and perform in a school idol group of eight members.

22/7 originated as a group of “idols who cross dimensions.” In 2016, an audition with over 10,000 applicants was held in Japan to select the girls who would be a part of the “Digital Idol Project.” The project was produced by Yasushi Akimoto, the founder of the well-known idol group AKB48. Along with Akimoto, this cross-media production was made in collaboration with Aniplex and Sony Music Records.

The finalists went on to become the eight core members of the live performing idol group as well as the motion-capture actresses for the characters they voiced and portrayed. The digital version of each character was designed by various notable artists in the anime industry. Three additional “hidden gems” members have also been cast and revealed.

An original anime story is scheduled to air in January 2020.
