Synopsis
Rikei ga Koi ni Ochita no de Shoumei Shite Mita is a scientific love comedy about Ayame and Shinya, two graduate students who are both obsessed with science and in love with each other, and follows them as they try to objectively analyze and experiment to logically and scientifically prove their love through making it quantifiable and testable.
Background
Originated as a Japanese romantic comedy manga by Alifred Yamamoto which has been serialized online on Flex Comix’s Comic Meteor website since 2016. It has been collected into six collected volumes as of July 2019 with the seventh volume set to be released in January 2020. The series has been adapted into a four-part TV drama that aired in September 2018 and a live-action movie that premiered in February 2019.
An anime adaptation was announced in January 2019 and is being directed by Toru Kitahata at studio Zero-G along with series composition by Rintarou Ikeda, character designs by Yusuke Isouchi, and music by hisakuni, Kaoru Otsuka, Shouichiro Hirata, Shuhei Takahashi, Takuma Sogi, and Yuko Takahashi. The anime will premiere in January 2020.
Characters
Ayame Himuro (Voiced by: Sora Amamiya)
Ayame is 23 and a first-year graduate student in the National Saitama University’s Department of Science and Technology Research. She is scientific to the core. She has genius level intelligence and is at the top of her class. She is sharp as a tack and able to keep her cool in any circumstance. She won’t be satisfied until she understands every and all phenomenon and system.
Shinya Yukimura (Voiced by: Yuma Uchida)
Shinya is 23 and is also a first-year graduate student in the National Saitama University’s Department of Science and Technology Research along with Ayame. He rivals Ayame in both how obsessed he is with science and his genius intelligence. He has been called a prodigy since childhood. He too has an insatiable appetite to learn all he can about science.
Kosuke Inukai (Voiced by: Jun Fukushima)
Kosuke is 22 and is a fourth-year graduate student in the National Saitama University’s Department of Information Science and Engineering. She is assigned to the lab along with Kotonoha. He may look like a brash, egotistical bad boy, but he’s actually a hardcore otaku. He has calculated that his love for 2D girls is 7.6 times as much as Ayame’s love for Shinya.
Kotonoha Kanade (Voiced by: Natsuko Hara)
Kosuke is 22 and is a fourth-year graduate student in the National Saitama University’s Department of Information Science and Engineering along with Kotonoha. She keeps things under control in the lab. She chastises Ayame and Shinya for their crazy experiments.
Ena Ibarada (Voiced by: Nichika Omori)
Ena is 24 and is a second-year graduate student in the National Saitama University’s Department of Science and Technology Research. She is the sole M2 in Professor Ikeda’s class and is a leader among the students. She can be capricious like a cat and goes at her own pace. She is basically devoid of motivation and ambition. She can generally be found napping on a sofa or playing games. She can swear like a sailor and usually has a mean disposition.
Professor Ikeda (Voiced by: Ryotaro Okiayu)
Ikeda is 49 and is a professor in the National Saitama University’s Department of Science and Technology Research and Department of Mathematical Sciences. His field of expertise is soft computing. He generally has a calm and kind personality. If something seems interesting he gets right on it.
Rikekuma (Voiced by: Momo Asakura)
Rikekuma is a potty mouthed bear who teaches scientific terminology. His knowledge base is massive and much of his existence is shrouded in mystery.
