Inspired by the manga by Ohba Tsugumi and Obata Takeshi, the stage musical is to be directed by Kuriyama Tamiya and will feature songs by Frank Wildhorn. The musical was first staged in 2015 and reprised in 2017 each time starring Urai Kenji and Kakizawa Hayato as Yagami Light.
This newest musical is set to premiere in Jan. 2020 in Ikebukuro, but also has performances in other areas and even overseas in the works.
The 2020 production will feature an entirely new cast and open auditions are currently underway for the leading role of Yagami Light. Amateurs and professionals alike between the ages of 17 and 28 are invited to send in an application by February 28 in order to be considered for the role.
