Miyazaki Hayao’s Latest Anime Coming in March!

Boro the Caterpillar, a 14-minute original anime short written and directed by Miyazaki Hayao of Studio Ghibli, will premiere at Saturn Theater in the Ghibli Museum in Tokyo on Mar. 21.

This is Miyazaki’s first direction since The Wind Rises in 2013 and the 10th original anime short to be screened exclusively in the museum.

Boro is a tiny little caterpillar who was born just before dawn. Emerging into the blinding sun with sweet air filling his mouth, Boro climbs down to the ground, arriving to a world where friends and enemies come and go.

Miyazaki has long wanted to draw the world with the eyes of an insect. Visitors of the Ghibli Museum might recognize Boro the Caterpillar from one of the Panorama Boxes, which are made from painted glass boards to create the illusion of a 3D world.

In conjunction with the premiere, a related exhibition will also be opening in the 2nd floor gallery. March tickets will be available from Feb. 10, so if you’re planning to visit the museum, make sure to get your ticket in advance!
