Animation Studios Come Together to Celebrate ‘70s Robot Anime!

Japanese animation studios Eiken and Wako Productions are coming together with Japanese animation group Janime.com to work on a collaborative project in celebration of 40 years of classic robot anime. All four of the anime featured in the “Miracle Robot Force” project were aired in 1976-77 and are very much a part of the golden age of mecha animation.

The four franchises selected for the project include:

Eiken’s UFO Warrior Dai Apolon, based on the manga by Kiriya Tetsu (Oishinbo, Otokogumi). The series follows the adventures of American football enthusiast Takeshi who discovers he has special powers to control the Dai Apolon robots.

Wako Productions’ Mechander Robot aired in 1977. The titular robot was created by Doctor Shikishima in order to reclaim the Earth from the evil General Doron.

Blocker Gundan 4 Machine Blaster features mecha design by the legendary Okawara Kunio.

Ginguiser is also featured, well known as the first anime to star Inoue Kazuhiko in a leading role.

The project aims to bring the animation studios behind the series - Eiken and Wako Productions, together to celebrate 40 years of this classic genre. Kicking the project off in style, a series of key visuals has been released re-imagining the classic ‘70s robots in modern mecha style and an official website has also been launched for the project which is expected to last around a year.
