Mecha anime is a fundamental anime genre. So what kind of mecha anime is it that we really want to see?
To answer this question and create an anime in the process, the smartphone novel site Everystar launched a fun project on March 18. It’s the “Let’s Make the Mecha Anime We Want to See Production Committee.”
With the aim of creating a TV anime, the project concept is “everyone making the mecha anime everyone wants to see.” Users play a major role in each idea and decision.
The first stage of the process is an open call for proposals, and the second stage is a call for character design, mecha design, and script submissions. “We the viewers” vote on each of these. The chosen concept will be made into an anime short by an animation production company. It’s also possible to gain connections and financial backing to do an independent production.
Though it’s already quite large scale up to this point, the real project comes next. The anime shorts will be streamed on video sites like YouTube and Niconico Douga and viewers will vote for their favorites. The video chosen as “The Anime We Want to See” will be reviewed by the Let’s Make the Mecha Anime We Want to See Production Committee. If it is approved, it will get the green-light for a 60-minute TV anime. It will actually be made into a TV anime.
The people supporting this project are also noteworthy. One is Everystar company president Masayuki Ikegami and the other is the familiar Nippon Broadcasting announcer Hisanori Yoshida, aka Yoppi. Ikegami knows fiction for young people inside and out and Yoppi is an anime expert, and both are offering their support.
To begin, the call for proposals will be open from March 18 through April 30. Why not try for a chance to have your idea be turned into a TV anime?

□ Let’s Make the Mecha Anime We Want to See Production Committee Supporters
Everystar Co. Ltd. President Masayuki Ikegami:
“I’m excited to bring about a new mecha anime with all of you. Many hit titles have come about from the smartphone novel site Everystar, such as Ōsama Game, Doreiku, and Sakurako-san no Ashimoto ni Shitai ga Umatte-iru. I look forward to the birth of a magnificent anime that no one has seen before through ‘Mechatsuku.’ Would you like to turn your world into an anime? I await your enthusiastic submission!”
Nippon Broadcasting Announcer Hisanori Yoshida:
“No matter what industry it is, something made from ‘want’ will always move people more than something made from ‘I have to.’ If you were to make something you want to see yourself as an anime fan, it may be something that other people have been waiting for as well! With this project, that chance is right in front of you!”
