The long running “Evangelion and Japanese Swords Exhibition” is making a stop at Sendai’s EBeanS from March 25. The ongoing touring show features a fusion between the futuristic world of Evangelion and the traditional craft of Japanese sword making.
The exhibition presents the blades of Evangelion re-imagined as traditional Japanese swords and crafted by some of Japan’s best modern swordsmiths. Around 26 swords are on show including the Spear of Longinus and Progressive Knife but visitors will also be able to enjoy a selection of Evangelion panels, a 2m figure of Evangelion Unit-01, life size figures of some of the franchise’s most popular characters, and original artwork used in the production of the movies.
Aside from learning about the history of Japanese swords, Evangelion fans will also have the opportunity to take a commemorative photo in the specially set up photo corner and there will be a souvenir book on sale for those who want to delve a little deeper into the Evangelion x Japanese sword collaboration at home. Of course, there will also be a host of merchandise on offer including a few original exhibition themed items. Those who want a little more information as they browse the exhibition can also rent an audio guide featuring the voice of Mitsuishi Kotono who plays Katsuragi Misato in the TV anime.
