Next Door Project Begins for Wonder Festival Mascot Wonda-chan

A new project for Wonda-chan, the official mascot of Wonder Festival (WonFes), is kicking off this year. That project is the “Wonda-chan Next Door Project.” Good Smile Company and Kaiyodo are collaborating on the project to develop and produce high quality figures modeled on Wonda-chan. The first figure will go on sale at Wonder Festival Winter 2016 to be held on Sunday Feb. 7.

Wonda-chan was designed by well-known manga artist and illustrator Keinojo Mizutama. She has been the official mascot of WonFes since 2001 and is well-known to event attendees. She is also known for being on the front cover of the WonFes catalog for many years. Mizutama passed away in December 2014, and now the new “Next Door Project” will be taking up the mantle he left behind. Wonda-chan will be drawn by a different up-and-coming illustrator that will change with each event and be featured on the front cover of the event catalog. The drawn characters will also be made into figures.

In charge of the first illustration of Wonda-chan for the project is illustrator and character designer Route 12. The drawing will be sold at the event as a figure. The figure was sculpted by Tomohide Enoki (eyewater) who has been in charge of sculpting countless figures for Kaiyodo.

“Wonda-chan Next Door Project File:01 Route 12 Ver.” stands at a total height of approximately 130 millimeters including the exclusive pedestal and costs 5,800 yen (tax included). The figure will be for sale inside WonFes Winter 2016 at the “Wonderful Hobby Life for You!! 23” booth and the Wonder Festival Official Goods Shop (Makuhari Messe Hall 3 next to the information counter, and Hall 4 next to the Wonder Showcase booth). Other illustrators will also be joining the project from here out, so we’ll all be able to enjoy seeing Wonda-chan in a variety of different designs.
