“In the name of the moon, I will punish you!”
This is a phrase that anime fans around the world are likely familiar with. This year marks the 20th anniversary of Sailor Moon, which is loved not just in Japan but all over the world. Currently, the commemorative “20th Anniversary Project” is advancing and many plans are in store, including the broadcast of the all-new anime Sailor Moon Crystal starting on Nico Nico Douga on Saturday, July 5.
One portion of this “20th Anniversary Project” that we will introduce to you is the Sailor Moon Pullip. Pullip is a popular series of fashion dolls that we have introduced several times before here on TOM. They are known for their large eyes and unique proportions, and they have gathered high support from doll fans for their diverse gimmicks including being articulated and capable of many poses.
The first part of this collaboration between Sailor Moon and Pullip is a doll that shows main character Usagi Tsukino transformed into Sailor Moon. Take a close look at the cute charms of this Pullip of a transformed Sailor Moon through these TOM-exclusive photos.
The color and print of Sailor Moon’s blue eyes stay faithful to the anime. Other portions to take note of are the dango molds and her long blonde hair, which has a beautiful consistency.
Moon Stick earrings, hair ornaments, a Moon Tiara...these custom made items and accessories familiar to fans of Sailor Moon were created with particular attention paid to the original work. In particular, the gold stitching on the Moon Tiara is a quality that can only be reproduced on dolls. The Moon Stick also comes with the Silver Crystal, an important item from early in the series, which shows the level of detail the creators included.
The impressive costume with its enamel feel, the mark of the moon on the choker and boots, and the ribbon compact on her chest were all painstakingly created from the original work. Moreover, the doll is capable of many poses due to Pullip’s 30 points of articulation. This means you can recreate action scenes from the series.
A characteristic of Pullip dolls, the expression can be changed to one of your liking due to the eyes being movable. You can even make her wink! Her expression can be changed to match the action and pose.
You can even reproduce the adult expression that the child-like Sailor Moon sometimes shows.
The Sailor Moon Pullip will release in July. Pre-orders are currently being taken at hobby shops, doll shops, and online shops. A limited edition of the doll that comes with a mini stuffed animal of Sailor Moon’s partner Luna can also be pre-ordered from Premium Bandai. Regardless of the limited edition, however, Pullip dolls are limited products, so those who want one should pre-order theirs soon.
