P.A. Works produces wildly talked about anime, with their masterpieces including Shirobako and Charlotte, and this year the studio welcomed its 15th anniversary. They’ve also revealed production on a new anime to commemorate their 15th year. The anime is titled Kuromukuro and it will be broadcast sometime in 2016. Along with this, information on the staff and main cast was released as well as a promotional video. Thing’s are already off to a rocket start.
P.A. Works was launched in 2000 by founder and President Kenji Horikawa. While other studios base their headquarters in the western districts of Tokyo, an area dense with anime production studios, P.A. Works is unique in that it’s based out of Toyama Prefecture. But the reasons that distinguish P.A. Works don’t end there. They have an intimacy with anime fans who regard them highly also for the high quality of their work. The studio is also distinctive for its many original works. These begin with 2008’s True Tears and also include Angel Beats!, Hanasaku Iroha, Nagi-Asu: A Lull in the Sea, and Shirobako. The studio’s 2015 anime Charlotte is also popular. The studio’s upcoming anime based on a novel, Haruchika: Haruta to Chika wa Seishun Suru, will begin broadcasting in 2016.
The studio’s 15th anniversary anime project, Kuromukuro, is being directed by Tensai Okamura. Okamura is a talented director who has worked on Darker than Black and World Conquest Zvezda Plot. The series composer is Ryo Higaki who is well familiar from several P.A. Works anime including Another and The Eccentric Family. In charge of character designs is Yuriko Ishii from Nagi-Asu: A Lull in the Sea.
The voice cast of the three main characters has also been released. Playing main character Oma Kennosuke Tokisada is Yohei Azakami; playing Yukina Shirahane is M.A.O, who played Yuri Wakasa in School-Live! and Aoko Nakamori in Magic Kaito 1412; and playing Sophie Noelle is Reina Ueda, the voice of Naru Sekiya in Hanayamata and Ajimi Kiki in PriPara.
A promotional video was also released ahead of next year’s broadcast. More details on the anime will be revealed at a later date. Seeing as it’s a new original anime by P.A. Works, it’s sure to be hotly anticipated by fans. Keep it here for more reports to come.
