The TV anime series Noragami, the second season to which has gained great popularity, is getting the live stage treatment. A stage play has been greenlit for Adachitoka’s popular manga Noragami. This news was announced on Nov. 17 along with the release of volume 15 of the tankobon manga. Other must-see news for fans is that the curious story will be based on the manga while being original. The activities of Yato, a minor god without his own shrine, and the others will be widening all the more.
Noragami began serialization in Kodansha’s Monthly Shonen Magazine in 2011 and gained great support from readers. The series depicts minor god Yato, a young boy named Yukine who is Yato’s shinki who supports him, and a girl named Hiyori who gets involved with the two, and the incidents they find themselves wrapped up in. The secrets to its success are that it has drama, action, and a deep story. The manga was adapted into an anime in the spring of 2014, which gained support from both males and females. Thanks to its popularity, the second season titled Noragami Aragoto premiered last month which depicts the Bishamon arc, a popular arc in the original manga.
Along with the announcement about the stage play, the cast of the main characters has been revealed as well. Playing Yato is Hiroki Suzuki who has flourished in such roles as Sanjo Genjo in Saiyuki Kagekiden and Yasutomo Arakita in Yowamushi Pedal. His performance will be a highlight of Noragami as well. Playing Yukine is Keisuke Ueda. Ueda’s previous roles include Mitsunari Ishida in the musical Samurai Warriors: Sekigahara Chapter and Pharos in Persona 3 the Weird Masquerade: Souen no Kesshou. Playing Bishamonten’s shinki Kazuma is Takuma Wada who boasts high popularity in musicals from his roles as the sixth generation Kunimitsu Tezuka in the Prince of Tennis Second Season musical and Kazuya Miyuki in Ace of Diamond: The Live. This cast will likely increase the charms of the stage play all the more.
Moreover, a teaser visual was released as well along with the announcement of the stage play. It shows Hiroki Suzuki as Yato in an impressive stance holding his shinki sword.
Eight performances total will be held over four days, from Jan. 28–31, 2016. It will be performed at AiiA 2.5 Theater Tokyo in Shibuya, Tokyo, which is a well-known theater for 2.5D stage plays.
