The record-breaking hit that began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump in 2014 and gained a following all at once, My Hero Academia, has been greenlit for an anime adaptation. The series has become a huge topic since this was announced on Nov. 1, and now the voice cast of main characters Izuku Midoriya (Deku) and All Might have been announced as well.
Daiki Yamashita is voicing Deku, a boy who lives in an age where many people have special powers called “Quirks,” however he doesn’t have any, and who attends Yuei High School, which churns out heroes in great numbers. Yamashita is a young voice actor who has burst onto the scene in recent years with roles including Sakamichi Onoda in Yowamushi Pedal and Yotaro Hanabusa in Lance N’ Masques. On the other hand, Kenta Miyake is voicing the No. 1 hero, All Might. Miyake has a penchant for idiosyncratic characters and previously voiced Avdol in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders.
A portion of the staff has also already been announced. Directing is Kenji Nagasaki of No. 6 and Classroom Crisis fame, and the series composer is Yosuke Kuroda who has worked on countless hits including Gundam Build Fighters. Character designs are being handled by Yoshihiko Umakoshi, who is well known from HeartCatch PreCure! and Mushishi. Producing the animation is Bones. With such a strong staff and cast, expectations are likely to be high.
The staff at Bones have also put together a special video for the anime which they posted on Nov. 16. Deku and All Might appear in the PV and it shows the anime’s unique art style. The must-see video is about a minute long and shows Deku looking brave too.
On the other hand, broadcast dates and networks still have yet to be revealed. It seems we’ll have to wait until more news is announced, including more detailed information on the staff and cast.
