Best Otaku Dancer in Japan Decided!

The second round finale to the anime song dance battle event Akiba Street was held at Nakano Bunkasai on Saturday, Oct. 31. Akiba Street is a dance event looking for the best anime song dancer in Japan organized by the Real Akiba Boyz, anime song street dancers familiar to otaku. The second round finale was held during the festival Nakano Bunkasai in Nakano, an area famous in Japan as a subculture town, and drew more attention than ever before. Nakano is known for Nakano Broadway aka the “Oriental den of thieves” and holds tons of appeal as a subculture town. On the other hand, it’s also a town where Japanese anime production companies are gathered.

As well as the dance battle this time, there were also live performances by wonderful special guest artists. The lineup of artists further excited the crowd and included OxT(OHISHI MASAYOSHI x Tom-H@ck) who was in charge of the new ending theme to Ace of Diamond - Second Season, SCREEN mode who created the ending theme for the second half of the third season of the TV anime Kuroko’s Basketball, and fhána who created the opening theme to the TV anime Comet Lucifer.

The second round Akiba Street final tournament was an intense battle between 10 dancers—nine preliminary winners and one chosen on the day of. From the outset there was a series of intense duels all leading up to what could be called the final showdown. Advancing to this showdown was first round champion Cho Yokai Danto Neo-tan and Komori Night preliminary winner Ikemen Fire Bomber Dream. It was an incredible battle completely worthy of being called a decisive showdown. It was like being able to experience an anime battle in the real world—that’s one of Akiba Street’s charms. And as for the winner…

Taking the title two times in a row was first round champion Cho Yokai Danto Neo-tan! And with this grand battle decided, round two came to a close.

And this time, the preliminary stage is broadening from Japan to the world! That’s right, even you can participate in the next Akiba Street.
