Production Greenlit for New “The Seven Deadly Sins” TV Anime; Broadcasts in 2016

Nakaba Suzuki’s hit manga The Seven Deadly Sins currently serialized in Kodansha’s Weekly Shonen Magazine is returning to the world of anime. This surprise announcement came during the final episode of the anime The Heroic Legend of Arslan broadcast on MBS/TBS at 5:00 p.m. on Sept. 27.

The 30-minute time slot beginning at 5:00 p.m. on MBS/TBS networks every Sunday is one that has broadcast a number of popular anime series to date. The previous TV anime for The Seven Deadly Sins, which lasted 24 episodes total, was also broadcast during this time slot from October 2014 to mid-2015. The final episode recorded the series’ highest ratings at 6.3% (Kansai ratings), and the series has gained widespread popularity.

The anime now in production will be a continuation of the last. And since the serialization is also progressing, we can expect new developments starting from where the previous story left off. The broadcast will premiere sometime in 2016.

Details on broadcast times, channels, staff, and cast have yet to be revealed. Further announcements will be made on the official site and official Twitter. Don’t miss follow-up reports to come.

The Seven Deadly Sins began serialization in 2011. It gained popularity for its unique characters in a fantastical world in which dwell for clans: humans, demons, fairies, and giants. The series is so popular, in fact, that there are over 15 million copies of the tankobon volumes in print. It has also received high praise, including winning this year the 39th Kodansha Manga Award in the Shonen category. Because of how popular it is, there are no doubt many fans happily surprised by news of an upcoming new anime.
