An anime adaptation has been greenlit for Sprite’s popular game Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm. A portion of the staff has been revealed along with a broadcast scheduled for fall 2016. A special site for the TV anime has also opened.
Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm is a PC game released in November 2014. The game’s popularity won it the Yearly First Prize and the Players Choice Award at the Moe Game Awards 2014. It’s an adventure game featuring girls who fight in the sky and come to understand love, and it’s even planned to be released on the PS Vita in 2016. The series is developing in terms of both games and anime.
The story is set in a world in which flying in the sky is commonplace due to shoes called “grash” that halve the force of gravity. This largely affects the popularity of the sport Flying Circus, and a story of adolescence develops between Masaya Hinata, who aspires to become a player, and the rest of the heroines. The game’s creator, Sprite, also created Love, Election and Chocolate which was also adapted it into an anime in 2012. Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm is his second work to do so.
Directing the TV anime is Fumitoshi Oizaki who has also worked on Romeo x Juliet and Etotama. The series composer is Reiko Yoshida who has worked on countless series including K-On!, Yowamushi Pedal, and Non Non Biyori. Gonzo is producing.
On the special site for the anime there are interview articles with the staff of the original manga and the staff of the anime. A full list of the staff and cast are forthcoming.
