The World Cosplay Summit 2015 was held in Nagoya city from July 25 to Aug. 2. The climax of the event, the World Cosplay Championship was held at Nagoya Oasis 21 on Aug. 1. A total of 248,000 attendees visited the venue at Oasis 21 over the two days of Aug. 1 and 2. This is the largest attendance record for the event, surpassing last year’s by over 20,000 people.
The World Cosplay Summit has been held in Nagoya since 2003. This year’s event, its 13th installment, was held across four days total—July 25 and 28, and Aug. 1 and 2—and amassed attendees from all over the world.
The World Cosplay Championship was held on Aug. 1. Cosplayers each representing one of 26 countries were invited and competed for the throne of World’s No. 1 Cosplayer. The overall victors this year were Team Mexico, who drew great attention with their cosplay themed after the popular game The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask. In second were the representatives of Italy, and in third the representatives of the U.S.
Preparations are already underway for next year’s World Cosplay Summit, which set record attendance this year, and it has been confirmed that a new addition to next year’s event will be the holding of preliminaries for representatives of Canada. It seems the tournament will be expanding more and more. The executive managing body of World Cosplay Summit is aiming to bring even more attention to the event from here on. This cosplay event from Nagoya will continue to be a must see next year and for years to come.
