New details have emerged about the previously announced TV anime adaptation of Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji (Fist of the North Star: Strawberry Flavor) - it will be broadcast this autumn alongside the second season of DD Fist of the North Star. Broadcasts will begin on Oct. 6.
DD Fist of the North Star has been running in Monthly Comic Zenon since 2010 and is a gag manga illustrated by Kajio in which the characters from Buronson’s and Tetsuo Hara’s smash hit manga Fist of the North Star are depicted in super-deformed style. In 2011 the manga was adapted into a flash animation, and in 2013 was broadcast as a TV anime. This time for the second season, the action has shifted to the academy. The cast remains the same from the first season, as does the director Akitaro Daichi (of Kamisama Kiss and Fruits Basket fame).
Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji has been running on Web Comic Zenyon since 2013 and is written by Yushi Kawata with artwork by Imoto Yukio. Like DD Fist of the North Star, Hokuto no Ken: Ichigo Aji is a gag manga but has become something of a hot topic as it makes use of Tetsuo Hara’s art style. Mankyu (of Naruto SD: Rock Lee’s Springtime of Youth and Full-Power Ninja Chronicles and Puchimas! Petit Idolmaster fame) will direct the anime adaptation.
An A list cast has also been lined up: Banjo Ginga will play the protagonist Souther, Junichi Suwabe will play Shu, Toshiyuki Morikawa will play Shin, Kosuke Toriumi will play Rei, Kisho Taniyama will play Yuda, and Takashi Matsuyama will play Fudo. Additional members of the cast will be announced daily on the official website until Aug. 25.
The shows will be broadcast on TV Tokyo, TV Osaka, and TV Aichi. As it’s such a popular franchise, there are going to be a lot of very happy people! The continuous cast revelations and musings about the adaptation are sure to keep fans talking too!
