The doujinshi event Comic Market 88 will be held at Tokyo Big Sight from Aug 14–16. It has been revealed that inside the convention center they will be distributing the 40th Comic Market Chronicle which looks back at Comic Market’s 40-year history. This is the first such book in 10 years since 2005’s 30-year history chronicle, Comic Market 30’s File.
Since it began in 1975, Comic Market has become over the last 40 years Japan’s biggest doujinshi event. The 40th Comic Market Chronicle will focus on the last 10 years of the event’s history that weren’t covered in Comic Market 30’s File. The interviews and roundtable discussions with creators looking back at the history of Comic Market are a highlight. In the interview “ZUN x Koichi Ichikawa Discuss Touhou and Comiket Over Beers,” a varieties of stories related to Comiket unfold between Touhou Project’s ZUN and Koichi Ichikawa of the Comic Market Preparatory Committee.
In the roundtable discussion “Tournament of Japan’s Big 3 CGM,” Pixiv and Niconico, which have both contributed greatly as platforms for creators, gather for the first time and discuss their roles in Comic Market. There is also an article titled “The Day the President Changed” in which author Tomohiro Matsu investigates the circumstances behind the death of former Comiket President Yoshihiro Yonezawa and the subsequent inauguration of the vice president in the fall of 2006, as well as a complete recording of the symposium “Otaku Expo” at Comiket Special 6 held in March 2015, and more for a truly unmissable lineup. Along with the publication of this book for its 40th year, articles from Comic Market 30’s File will be available to read for free as PDF files on the event’s official site. When these will be released will be determined after Comiket 88. The 40th Comic Market Chronicle that looks back at Comic Market’s 40-year history will go on sale from Aug. 13 at the preparatory committee’s booth. It costs 2,000 yen (tax included).
