Curtain Rises on Kana Hanazawa’s Live Tour; Hanazawa Holds First Concert at Nippon Budokan

May 3 marked the first concert at Nippon Budokan for the live tour “Kana Hanazawa Live 2015: Blue Avenue.” This was Kana Hanazawa’s first time playing at Nippon Budokan, and she sang a 22-song mix of her hits, with a main focus on songs off her newest album, Blue Avenue. Kana Hanazawa is making more of a name for herself as a voice actress and artist, and this first concert was filled with a sense of her increasing momentum.

Wearing a lovely yellow one piece and hat ensemble, Hanazawa appeared on a stage reminiscent of New York, which Blue Avenue is themed on. Roars sprang up from the audience, dyed in the light of blue glowsticks, and already there was a sense of unity through the stadium.

The concert then moved on to the MC portion, and Hanazawa exclaimed in joy, “I’ve finally made it to the Budokan!” It was apparent that she was fully enjoying her first show at the Budokan: “The flowers on stage are arranged in an avenue, and I want to try strolling along it,” she said enthusiastically.

The various performances onstage livened up the crowd just as much as the music did. During “Tap Dance no Oto ga Kikoetekitara,” Hanazawa challenged herself with tap dancing. Fans were captivated with her fancy footwork, which she practiced in between her busy schedule. She also rephrased James Brown’s (Sex Machine) catchphrase “Get up!” with her favorite food, melonpan, and the band burst into rocking out.

During her last MC portion, she offered words of gratitude to her fans: “It’s been three years since I began making music, and at first I was nervous, but now it’s okay because we’re all friends! I’m supported by all of you. Thank you all.”

She then sang “Renai Circulation” for the first time live, and closed with the encore song “Hoshizora Destination” before doing an unexpected double encore to end the highlight-filled event. With that, the curtain closed on this hugely successful concert that brought a new feel to the Budokan.
