Popular Doujin Work from Comiket Will Be Adapted into a Musical Called ‘Aoharu Tetsudo’

Serialized in webcomic magazine ComicWalker, Aoharu Tetsudo, a manga that turns train lines into humans, will be adapted into a musical. Though already previously announced, with this most recent announcement it has been revealed that the title of the musical will be Aoharu Tetsudo. Keita Kawajiri of Sugarboy will be handling the script, directing, and composing the lyrics. The musical will open in November 2015 at the Space Zero Zenrosai Hall in Shibuya, Tokyo. Though still a little far in the future, this will be sure to interest fans of 2.5D musicals (musicals adapting anime and manga with the 2D aspect in mind).

The original work by author Aoharu actually came to be in a rather unusual way. The work was first revealed by Aoharu at Comiket and became an instant hit. Afterwards, the work got picked up by Kadokawa Media Factory to be serialized in Comic Flapper and has now moved to ComicWalker. There are six volumes out so far and the series has sold over 200,000 copies.

The story is a comedy with lots of train line trivia featuring all the train lines of Japan. Over 90 different train lines have appeared so far.

One of most charming aspects is the characterizations of the train lines, who fit their real life counterparts perfectly. For example the profitable Tokaido Shinkansen is strict with money, while Sanyo Shinkansen is a very good looking guy but pitiful because of his position being stuck between the more unconventional Tokaido Shinkansen and Kyushu Shinkansen. We cannot wait to find out how it will take shape in the musical!

Meanwhile, the work has already become a drama CD as well, marking the start of its multimedia franchising. The drama CD features popular voice talents such as Mamoru Miyano, Takahiro Sakurai, and Shinichiro Miki. Now that both a drama CD and a musical have been announced, fans are looking forward to the possibility of an anime adaptation.
