The Haruhi Suzumiya series, which was first published in 2003, is big hit light novel franchise. The TV anime version followed in 2006 and created a huge movement both in Japan and overseas. A new TV anime spin-off series, The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan, is due to begin in the spring of 2015 - it may even become this spring’s hottest anime!

Although it’s part of the Haruhi Suzumiya series, The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan is a little different to The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. In truth, it’s a spin off to the official parody manga, The Disappearance of Haruhi-chan Suzumiya.

The original Haruhi Suzumiya series is written by Nagaru Tanigawa with character design by Noizi Ito, and the manga adaptation is written and illustrated by Puyo. Animation studio Satelight will be in charge of animation on the upcoming TV series. It is expected that Jun’ichi Wada will direct with series composition by Touko Machida and character design and overall animation direction by Ikuko Itoh.

A normal high schooler attached to the literature club at North High, Yuki Nagato is a shy girl harbouring secret feelings for fellow literature club member Kyon. With the help of her close friend Ryoko Asakura, Yuki goes to great trouble to hold a Christmas party in the club room. The characters and voice actors from the original Haruhi Suzumiya anime series are set to return, so the show is sure to become irresistible to Haruhi fans!

There will also be a special event held in the run up to the beginning of the broadcast in April. “The Disappearance of Nagato Yuki-chan Special Mini Live and Talk” will take place on March 21 at AnimeJapan 2015 to be held at Tokyo Big Sight and will feature appearances by Yuki Nagato’s voice actress, Minori Chihara, and Tomokazu Sugita who plays Kyon in the series. On the following day, March 22, there will also be an advance preview screening of episode 1 at Kadokawa Cinema Shinjuku. Doors open at 8 p.m. and the show starts at 8.30 p.m. Tickets are priced at 3,500 yen (including tax). In addition to Minori Chihara and Tomokazu Sugita, Minoru Shiraishi, Megumi Matsumoto, Natsuko Kuwatani, Yuko Goto and Yuki Matsuoka are also expected to appear at the screening. On top of that, all audience members will each receive a special gift scenario book (with dust jacket)!
