Shunji Iwai's first long-form animation, The Case of Hana and Alice, is set to debut nationwide beginning on Feb. 20 at Shinjuku Wald 9. The latest promotional posters for the film have been released. The design features the two main female leads with the tagline "What's your name?" It focuses on the two main characters more than previously released promotional material.

The poster features transfer student Alice, and truant student Hana. With their middle school in the background, Alice wears a different style uniform blazer than the students around her, while Hana rests her chin on Alice's shoulder, wearing informal clothes. The illustration is a vivid representation of the pair's relationship.

The film is a prequel to the Shunji Iwai's 2004 live action film, Hana and Alice. This completely original animated story depicting how Hana and Alice met is drawing a lot of attention from passionate fans.

Voice talent will be provided by the Hana and Alice actors, with Anne Suzuki voicing Hana and Yu Aoi voicing Alice. Likewise, the cast will once again feature Shoko Aida as Alice's mother, Sei Hiraizumi as Alice's father, Midoriko Kimura as Hana's mother, and Tae Kimura as the ballet teacher. Furthermore, Tomohiro Kaku, who played Mr. Miyato, Hana’s crush in the previous film, will again return to reprise his role as the teacher. With such a star-studded cast, we can surely expect an exciting performance.

The production team is also full of renowned artists. Yuhei Sakuragi, who worked as an animator for 009 Re:Cyborg, will serve as CG director for the film, and Yoko Kuno, who received multiple awards for the film Airy Me which she made as a student, will be the film's rotoscope animation director. Yumiko Katayama from Jin-Roh: The Wolf Brigade and Eden of the East will do color design, Hiroshi Takiguchi from The Garden of Words will be in charge of art direction, and Chigi Kanbe from Atarashii Kutsu wo Kawanakucha will be the film's cinematographer.
