A DVD Box set of the anime Jungle King Tar-chan broadcast between 1993-94 has been confirmed. Volume 1 will release on March 27, 2015, and Volume 2 will release on April 24. Even at the 19:00 time slot on Thursdays, which was closely contested by variety shows and other anime, the anime was a hit with average viewer ratings of 11%. Now, fans will be able to enjoy the digitally remastered version of the series.
The first volume of the “Jungle King Tar-chan DVD-Box Digital Remaster Edition” will include Episodes 1-25, with Volume 2 including Episodes 26-50. Each volume comes with 3 discs and a guide book and costs 20,000 yen (tax not included).
The original work to Jungle King Tar-chan is an eponymous manga by Masaya Tokuyhiro that was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump (Shueisha).Twenty seven volumes of the series were published in total between 1988-95, and the series is counted among those that supported the golden age of Jump. Tar-chan, the main character, was raised in the African savanna by a chimpanzee named Etekichi, and the story develops to incorporate gags and battles. The series became popular for its unique style that includes action scenes with the super powerful Tar-chan, comedy that unfolds with former model Jane demasculating Tar-chan, and dirty jokes that fly about.
Playing Tar-chan is voice actor Goro Kishitani. With a wonderful cast that also includes Miki Narahashi as Jane and Kappei Yamaguchi as Etekichi, another huge highlight of the series will be their powerful performances.
Directing is Hitoshi Nanba who also worked on YAT Anshin! Uchu Ryoku and Heroman. The series composer is Jinzo Toriumi who has given the world a great many Tatsunoko Production works. In charge of the animation production is Group TAC of Soar High! Isami fame and others.
