Kyokai no Rinne TV Anime Confirmed, Broadcast to Begin in Spring 2015 on NHK E-TV

Manga artist Rumiko Takahashi has released many works to the world including Inuyasha, Ranma ½, and Urusei Yatsura. Takahashi’s newest work, Kyokai no Rinne, has now been confirmed to be getting a TV anime adaptation.

The official PC and smartphone sites for the anime launched on Nov. 17, and each have the announcement “NHK E-TV 2015 Spring!!!! TV Anime Adaptation Confirmed.” This popular school-life/supernatural love comedy is finally getting an anime.

A portion of the staff has also been revealed including Shizutaka Sugawara of D-Frag! fame as director and Michiko Yokote, who has created many hit works, as series composer. In charge of the animation is Brains Base, which has created popular works including the Natsume’s Book of Friends series, Brothers Conflict, and One Week Friends. Great effort is expected from the company for Kyokai no Rinne as well. The series is scheduled to be 25 episodes.

The story follows high schooler Rinne Rokudo, who is half-human and half-shinigami (god of death), and female student Sakura Mamiya who goes to the same school. Rinne lives his life solving the worries of spirits who visit him during school, and it is because of this that he has abundantly unique friends and experiences. Rinne, who is disinterested in love, and the cool, collected Sakura solve bizarre phenomena one after the next with a comical touch. The target demographic of the anime is teens and families. The site is currently partially open, and more information is expected to be released.

Rumiko Takahashi, author of the original manga, is known for her works Inuyasha, Ranma ½, Urusei Yatsura, Mezon Ikkoku, and others. She is an author who is especially popular overseas in North America and other areas. Because Kyokai no Rinne is her newest work, there is no doubt that it will gather huge amounts of interest.

Comment from author Rumiko Takahashi:
“It’s always a feeling of fresh joy when my works are made into anime. As a viewer, I too am looking forward excitedly to the broadcast next spring.”

Comment from chief producer Atsuko Kashiwagi:
“A shinigami boy and a girl who can see spirits is a strange combination, but we will deliver a program that will make you feel uplifted in which those who are troubled (spirits?) are saved in refreshing, comical ways.”
